"But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one." acts 8:9
With regard to Anthony R. Friedman, a personal injury attorney who was working under the aegis of the Simon Law Firm P.C. in St. Louis, Missouri I too, for a period of time, being then unsophisticated with regard to jurisprudence, civil procedure, and personal injury law was "bamboozled" by Friedmans presentation.
I first met Anthony Friedman when he came to the residential care facility where I resided to do a case evaluation and assessment.
As I told him of the factual nature of the case, my ten year relationship with a primary care physician, the ten year protracted therapy with narcotics for chronic pain, the addiction and that were it not "but for", I had suffered the loss of all things and now reside in a boarding home at the tax payers expense Friedman listened attentively and with great acuity.
At the conclusion of the case assessment, evaluation, moments before he departed, Friedman said to me as a matter of fact: "We are definitely taking this case to trial."
Friedman further went on to say: "We may be looking at ten to twenty times punitive damages." At the time I was not familiar with terms and distinctions such as compensatory damages and punitive damages. However, even in my ignorance this attorney created in my mind "the bamboozlement" of an unjustifiable expectation of an attorney committed and capable to take this case all the way to trial and, though not yet quantified, a substantial jury award.
With this in mind I was prepared "to go the distance" and I waited patiently, for over three years of litigation, rarely seeking an update from Friedman, considering that it is prudent to let an attorney do the job for which you retained them for without being a nuisance client.
For over three years. Then, when I began to observe unusual conduct with Friedman, acting as counsel, my initial assessment and evaluation of him as a litigator began to fracture.
To be continued....
